This mural by Cliff Whiting depicts the struggle of Tāwhirimātea to control his children, the wind and weather (the blue spiral forms). Tāwhirimātea sent forth the clouds, winds and storms as part of his war against his brothers. It was a punishment for separating their parents, Ranginui (the sky father) and Papatūānuku (the earth mother).
In Term 2 Room 10 have been learning about Tawhirimatea. We read different versions of the story and looked closely at the pictures. We saw lots of koru designs.
We then began the process of creating our own photostory of
Tawhirimatea. First we drew an illustration for our part of the story and
then we used Kidpix to publish it.
Mrs Aberhart put our pictures into photostory and we recorded ourselves
reading our part of the story.
Please have a look at our photostory of Tawhirimatea.
